ABOUT LUKE

Luther “Luke” Snyder Garrison III was born on December 28, 1990 in Hickory, NC. Luke is the son of Gail and Snyder Garrison and the brother of Thomas Hedrick Garrison.

Luke graduated magna cum laude from Woodberry Forest School in 2009. He played on the varsity basketball team for three years, and participated in several competitive academic teams in economics and research physics during his time at Woodberry. As a senior, Luke served on the Prefect Board. He was particularly fond of his boarding school experience, and his love for the outdoors grew stronger as he spent time on the pristine grounds of the school and the banks of the Rapidan River. There is now a Luke Garrison Scholarship at Woodberry to honor his memory and carry on his legacy there.

A lifelong Tar Heel, Luke went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from UNC-Chapel Hill. Most recently, he worked as a process engineer at Valdese Weavers. Luke was an Eagle Scout and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

Luke was an avid outdoorsman, who was happiest when skiing, hunting, hiking, camping, or fly fishing, especially at Grandfather Mountain, NC. His contagious zest for life touched many people during his almost 25 years. He loved to travel and plan spontaneous adventures with his family, friends, and his longtime girlfriend, Betsy. Luke was known for his ability to connect with anyone he met, and had a knack for lighting up a room—especially a room with a dance floor.
